A CUP OF COFFEE

Image
This is a piece of writing to the requirement of an assignment in Humor in English Literature course. Although written hurriedly in a tight amount of time, this is an artwork whose process I was really enjoying, from which simple notions became ideas and then was developed into linked paragraphs. And here it is. Just read and guess the figure built in this writing. A CUP OF COFFEE Vo Hong Yen Phuong - May 2021 Hi, I am Ellene’s favorite brown coffee cup. Now that Ellene is going abroad for her higher education for around a year, and I am left home, sitting here missing her so much. Let’s take some time enjoying gossips in which I’ll talk behind her back at this golden opportunity. One year ago, Ellene would wake up twice in the morning. The first time was at 5:30 a.m. when Ms. cubed blue dot alarm yelled furiously on the top of Ellene’s tiny bed. Giving Ms. Alarm a deadly slap, Ellene fell into another phase of sleep until her petty Pug jumped up and licked her faces, wakening he...

OF THE SAME CHEMISTRY

This post is dedicated to conjuring up  the picture of him, a birdy guy who's been keeping my company through ups and downs during my learning journey, the one who could sit down and listen to my life story, attentively. To express how much meaning he has brought to my tiny life and to show him how thankful I have been for the past few years may make this become a verbose post. However, assumably people may become forgetful someday, then the words come in handy in retaining the memories. From this point onwards, I'll use Vietnamese as the main channel for better message delivery. 1. WHO'S HE?

JUST A TINY BIT FOR THE HEART

Romantic relationship has never been an easy game for me to play. This owes itself to a myriad of reasons, partly due to my single-minded manner and the half remained, I guess, is a sheer coincidence that cannot be rationally explained. However, I've decided to just let the nature take its course. As a friend of mine used to quote Helen Keller's saying to me: "Some women choose to follow men, and some women choose to follow their dreams.  If you're wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you that it doesn't love you anymore", then again, this post is to merely recap my foregone story the hard way. Some weak moments are included in the dairy parts, though, I think I'm still bold and determined, enough. --- 2016 -  Things got started - I turned over a new leaf and started to remake my emotional life - I did try a lot that time, and I met you. You may not know how meaningful you were to me at the time, and even now, ...

Humor in Foreign Language Classroom

This is the work completed in collaboration with Bo Khanh Linh Since time immemorial, there has been a myriad of theories and views regarding how human languages develop and how people learn languages. In the era of modernisation and globalisation, there is an urgent need to be able to communicate in at least one foreign language, which has given rise to the popularity of foreign language classes. Research has been conducted as to what makes people learn a new language effectively. No matter how old they are or where they come from, foreign language learners are all humans, which means they have feelings. The Affective Filter Hypothesis (Krashen, 1981) took this into account and proposed the idea that students cannot successfully acquire a second language when they are anxious, lacking in motivation and self-esteem since there exists a mental block in the process of input processing. Krashen later also stated that teachers do not only need to provide comprehensible input but also need ...

Gia...

COMMENTARY ON TEXT “THINKING AS A HOBBY”

Foreword: A friend of mine friendly calls me a maniac of being self-tormented with studies. Sound hilarious, but it may be true to some extent. I can't dare say it is destiny or a sheer coincidence, but somehow it turns out to be an incredible incidence that proves her saying. The text below is a precious thing from the chances I again kept tormenting myself while each of my friends did have some spare time for other stuff. However, everything must happen for a reason, and I'll grasp each valuable moment with dearest dedication. Just take some time enjoying reading mine. COMMENTARY ON TEXT “THINKING AS A HOBBY”  BY WILLIAM GOLDING Considered the first of William Golding’s essay, published in August 1961 in the United States of America, “Thinking as a hobby” provides readers with an insight into the so-called critical thinking from the author’s perspectives. Worldly known as an eminent Nobel Prize winner, William Golding made a name for himself for his illuminating wri...

FUNNY POEMS FROM AN AMATEUR

On the occasion of submitting my first individual assignment on the course Humor in English Literature, which accounts for 10 percent in the final result, I was also given a chance to let my vivid imagination and wettened romance come out in such a rushed run for deadline.
